Monster vegan burgers in Germany!

written by Sally Hills November 20, 2017

As those of you that follow me on Instagram know, I visited Münster in Germany over the weekend and was surprised at the number of vegan food options available, and not only that – they were also clearly labelled! I’ve since returned referring to vegan in a heavily pronounced German accent ‘vae-gaaan’ 🙂

This burger though! My friend Insa and I visited Hochstapler Burger, which is on the Port of Münster and surrounded by a number of other bars and restaurants. I had visited Hochstapler once before as a vegetarian and was very impressed, so it was great to learn that they offer two vegan burgers and a number of sides/puds:

  • Black Pat: A black bean quinoa patty, with herb mushrooms, rocket, tomato, cashew-avocado sauce, inside an oat flaked bun
  • The Grinch: A broccoli and pea patty, with grilled aubergine, roasted paprika, silver onion chutney, salad leaves, tomato and aioli, also inside an oat flaked bun

I went for the Black Pat as I’m a sucker for mushrooms and really wanted to try the cashew-avocado sauce. It was delicious, however if you’re the type of person that likes to eat your burger with your hands (as I do), the size of this bun and the creamy sauce presents quite a challenge! Got there in the end though… 😉  There are lots of vegan sides on offer – from chips (hausfritten), sweet potato fries (süsskartoffelfritten), mixed salad (gemischter salat) and Asian coleslaw (asiatischer cole slaw).

I also cannot possibly mention this burger and not mention the homemade sorbets…

All vegan, the flavours available were:

  • Lemon
  • Gin & Tonic
  • Raspberry
  • Strawberry
  • Blueberry

Being the gin fiend that I am, I chose the Gin & Tonic sorbet, along with a Strawberry sorbet for good measure. Lecker Lecker indeed! Happy days people ♥
