Morning and Happy New Year! I hope it’s a fab year for you all ♥ Today marks my first anniversary as a Veganista! One year in and I’ve never been surer that I made the right decision. 2017 was a brilliant year for me and I feel like I’m on the right path at last, let’s see what 2018 has in store!
Hope you enjoyed your new year’s eves. I’m not a fan of making big plans for new year’s, instead I prefer to get lots of drink in (of course!), make a delicious spread and see where the night takes me! Last night was just that – we stocked the fridge with fizz & other drinks, laid out a spread of homemade houmous, vegetable crudités & pitta breads, spicy sauces, nuts and sweets, and then sang and danced the night away in the living room! At 11.45pm we took a walk over to Lambeth North station with other locals to see the fireworks over the London Eye! We are really fortunate where we live – we get a great view of the midnight display and live amongst a lovely community 🙂
Insa also made sure we continued a German new year’s eve fortune telling tradition – Bleigießen! We each melted a metal figure on a spoon (over a candle) until liquid, and then poured the liquid into a glass of cold water to see what shape is formed. My shape looked like a baby at one angle and a dog at another, which apparently means good fortune and a relaxed year… so who knows what 2018 has in store for me! If anyone knows more about what this means, please do get in touch!! 🙂
So anyways, what do you do on New Year’s Day when you’ve got a house full of people with (a) hangovers and (b) aching muscles after a particularly challenging gym sesh yesterday? This year I made a warming porridge using up the leftover fruit & chocolate from Christmas. So easy to make; I popped three cups of porridge into a pan on the hob with six cups of soya milk and stirred until thick and creamy. The porridge was ladled into four bowls and sprinkled with toppings according to taste. I went for a dollop of Alpro blueberry yogurt, a squirt of Schlagcreme, a sprinkle of blueberries, grapes, raspberries, nuts and seeds, and some dark chocolate buttons. Just what I needed after a seemingly bottomless glass of cava to toast the New Year! I’m really excited for the year ahead, bring it on 🙂
